Household Products That Can be Made at Home
Making your own household products allows you to have more control over the ingredients and chemicals used in your home and can help you live more frugally. Many different items can be made at home, from candles and household cleansers to your favorite beauty supplies.
Candles are a simple product you can make at home with just wax, wicks, and molds. Fragrance oil and candle dye are entirely optional. You can even make your candles in a bucket or sand to reduce the overall amount of work involved.
Another simple at-home household project is liquid soap. Grate a bar of your favorite natural soap while a gallon of water steams on the stove. Remove the water from the heat, and add the soap. Mix well, and allow the blend to sit overnight or for at least eight hours. Mix the soap blend again in the morning before funneling it into a gallon jug for storage.
Many household cleaning products can be made from vinegar, baking soda, and essential oils like tea tree oil or lemon oil. Create a streak-free glass cleaner, scouring cleanser, disinfectant formula, or drain cleaner with the right blend of any of these ingredients.
Beauty products can also be created with with items from around your house. Use cider vinegar, lemon juice, or cooled tea or coffee to intensify or clarify the color of your hair. Cucumber slices or milk-soaked cotton balls will reduce bags under your eyes. Yogurt and honey make a highly effective mask for all skin types, and strawberries can whiten your teeth but should be used very sparingly to avoid damaging your enamel.
